About MHC

Internal corridor

Committed to Caring for You and Your Whānau

MHC, previously known as Mornington Health Centre, is Dunedin’s most forward-thinking medical practice. We are also one of the largest and most respected, having provided top quality medical treatment to patients for more than 40 years.

At MHC, we are committed to providing high quality health care which is equitable, accessible and meets the need of all of our patients regardless of their ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age or socioeconomic status.  We are dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that respects cultural differences, recognises the diverse needs of our patients and enables them to feel safe.

Many of our doctors and nurses have specialist training so we can offer a full range of services, some of which you might not associate with a medical practice. These include hearing care, diabetes control, weight loss, respiratory and immunisation services. We also offer a free courtesy coach to patients registered with us.

Training future doctors

We believe in contributing to the future of medicine and are passionate about training New Zealand’s next generation of doctors. MHC has Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners accreditation as a teaching practice in its General Practice Teaching Programme and attracts some of the best talent around. If you are asked whether a student may be present during your consultation or if you are willing to be seen by one of the (usually hospital-trained) doctors who are learning about primary care, the choice to accept or decline is entirely up to you.

Nursing Students

Student nurses are also regularly on clinical placement at MHC. You may be asked if you would allow a student to be present during your nursing consultation, and in some cases you may see the student first. You always have the right to decline this request as your care and comfort is our first priority.
