Mornington Health Centre was established over 40 years ago and is one of the largest health centres in New Zealand. Now known as MHC, it is located in Mornington, Dunedin but attracts patients from all over the city and towns throughout Otago. The practice has a large contingent of GPs and nurses, many of whom have undergone specialist training in their particular field of interest.
MHC is passionate about training New Zealand’s future doctors. The Centre has Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners accreditation as a teaching practice in its General Practice Teaching Programme.
This means that, on occasion, you may be asked if you would allow a student to be present during your consultation. You may also be asked if you are happy to see one of the (usually hospital-trained) doctors who is learning about primary care. You have the right to decline either of these requests.
Student nurses are regularly on clinical placement at MHC. You may be asked if you would allow the student to be present during your consultation, and in some cases you may see the student first. You always have the right to decline this request as your care and comfort is our first priority.
