About MHC

The MHC was established over 40 years ago and is now one of the largest health centres in New Zealand.  Located in Dunedin’s pleasant Mornington suburb, the practice attracts patients from all suburbs of Dunedin as well as other towns throughout the province of Otago.

The practice has a large contingent of GP’s and nurses, many of who have achieved specialist training, and have areas of specialist interest in their practice.

To ensure MHC operates as smoothly and efficiently as possible, a competent team of reception staff, a courtesy coach driver, a Practice Administrator and a Practice Manager are employed.

Health Science Students

MHC is passionate about care and about training the future doctors of NZ.  We are accredited by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners as a teaching practice in the General Practice Teaching Program.  On occasion, you may be asked if you would allow a student to be present during your consultation.  You may also be asked if you are happy to see one of the qualified doctors, who are learning about primary care (usually hospital trained doctors).  You have the right to decline either of these requests.

Nursing Students

A number of student nurses are placed at MHC throughout the year on clinical placement.  You will be asked if you would allow the student present during your consultation, and in some cases, you may see the student first.  You always have the right to decline without causing offence.
