Health Science Students

Undergraduate Students

Most of the doctors in the health centre are clinical tutors for the University of Otago Medical School. If your doctor has a medical student working with them on the day of your visit, you will be asked if you would allow the student to be present during your consultation and, in some cases, whether the student could see you first. You always have the right to decline this without causing offence or embarrassment.

Postgraduate Students

The Mornington Health Centre is accredited by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners as a teaching practice in the General Practice Teaching Programme. On occasion, qualified doctors with mainly hospital experience will be working in the health centre to gain insight and experience of the medical problems encountered in general practice. You may be asked to see one of these doctors. Again, you always have the right to decline this request.

Nursing Students

At various times during the year, second and third year student nurses from the Otago Polytechnic School of Nursing, are on clinical placement within the nurses clinic. If the nurse has a nursing student working with them on the day of your visit, you will be asked if you would allow the student to be present during your consultation, and in some cases, if the student may see you first. You always have the right to decline without causing offence or embarrassment.
