I am from the UK but have had several visits to New Zealand since 1991 before coming to Mornington Health Centre in January 2002 to work as a locum.
The whole team at Mornington has been very welcoming and supportive and I have been very impressed with all the practice has to offer for patients and the staff who work there.
I went to St Andrews university in Scotland to study for a degree in Anatomy and Pathology before moving on to Cambridge where I qualified in Medicine in 1989. Junior hospital posts in various parts of Southern England followed including stints in psychiatry, obstetrics and gynaecology and geriatric medicine. In 1994 I completed my vocational training in general practice. After this I took the chance to come to New Zealand on a working trip with some hospital and general practice locums in Christchurch and enjoyed living in Sumner. This gave me a taste of the NZ lifestyle.
From 1995 to the end of 2001 I was a partner in a practice in Cambridge, UK where I ran the diabetic clinic and organised the clinical meetings and clinical governance activities. I also worked part-time in a child and adolescent psychiatry clinic working with children and families and was a member of a multidisciplinary ADHD team.
I am married to Mira. She is also a medical doctor and works as a senior research fellow for the Intensive Medicines Monitoring Programme at the University of Otago. We have 2 young children who have enjoyed coming to settle in Dunedin. |
