Peter studied medicine in South Africa, graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburgh in 1996. After an internship year at a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal and a stint as a junior lecturer in Physiology at his old Medical School, he travelled to New Zealand to work for a year as a House Surgeon and Senior House Officer at Wellington Hospital.
In 1999 he returned to South Africa, working in emergency medicine, surgery and orthopaedics. During this time he also qualified in advanced trauma care and as a flight medical attendant.
In 2001 Peter relocated permanently to New Zealand and to Wellington Hospital as a registrar in Emergency Medicine. He joined the intensive training programme of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, passing the PRIMEX exam and becoming a member of the College in 2002. He worked as a GP in Wellington and Lower Hutt before moving to Dunedin in January 2006 to join the Mornington Health Centre as a locum. He has subsequently taken over from Dr Tim Medlicott who retired in July this year.
Last year Peter and his wife Tracy became New Zealand citizens. They share a love of books, movies, music and most of all, cats. |
